Show Regulations
Competitors must not talk to judges while judging is in progress.
NOTE - Where amplifier is used in Sideshows it must meet with the approval of the committee or be discontinued. Failure to do so will involve expulsion from showgrounds.
N.B. - No prize cards or ribbons allowed on stock of any description until after judging.
Society is Incorporated and affiliated with Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd, Wimmera Association and E.F.A., rules of which will be observed, and affiliated with the Showmans' Guild.
EXHIBITS & ENTRIES
1- No exhibitor (unless in charge of an animal) will be allowed in that section of the yard in which his/her exhibit is placed during adjudication, and it shall be the duty of the Stewards to prevent any person interfering with the judges, and if necessary, order the removal of such offenders from the yards.
2- All entries must be in writing and (except arena events) be lodged with secretary at the Show office, Donald, on or before Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 5 p.m., when a ticket will be given stating the Class, Section and No. of the exhibit for which the entry is made.
3- Cash, or Entry Ticket MUST accompany each entry, or the Entries WILL NOT be received.
4- All exhibitors will be charged an entry fee as aspecified on the schedule at begining of various classes.
5- A entrance ticket will admit two adults and their student children and car to all sections of the show.
6- As many persons will be allowed into the yard free of charge as the committee may deem necessary to take charge of the exhibits after the entries are made. No attendants' passes will be issued and only persons in charge of exhibits as approved by stewards (excepting holders of entrance tickets and those privileged under same) will be allowed to remain in yard while it is being cleared on show morning.
7- The owner or exhibitor of any exhibit disapproved of as an exhibit by the committee of the Society, must immediately, upon notice to that effect, remove such exhibit from the Society's ground.
8- No person except entrance ticket holders and those actually in charge of stock, implements or machinery, and from whom any authority must be obtained, will be permitted to remain in the yard during the adjudication under any pretence whatsoever. The persons in charge must on no account leave their respective lots to address the judges, unless authorised by the stewards of the exhibition.
9- All possible care will be taken of all exhibits, but no responsibility will be incurred by the Society.
10- The age of exhibits of livestock required in their respective sections must be set forth in each entry. Any infringements of this rule will disqualify the exhibit.
11- The breeding year dates from 1st of August for horses.
12- Sheep entries to state date when shorn and when lambed.
13- All entries must be in their places in show yard before 9 a.m. on the day of the show, excepting exhibits shown in Class L., which must be in their places, on the show ground, by 5 p.m. day before Show and Pavilion exhibits, which must be in their places by 9.00 a.m. the day of the show.
14- Intending exhibitors are particularly requested to observe the date fixed for the reception of entries at the office, as the rule will be strictly enforced, and also that the "Entry Tickets" must be produced, attached to each lot, at the gates of the show yard.
15- All horses must show good health, be eating normally and not showing any signs of respiratory disease during the last 3 days prior to the show. The Show Committee has the right to call for a veterinary inspection of any horse suspected of illness at any time during the course of the show, fees incurred to tbe paid by the exhibitor.
16- In the event of a restriction of movement of horses due to diseases such as equine influenza, exhibitors agree that a Standstill is a risk of competing at this event and agree to pay all costs or expenses incurred by themselves and their horses as a result of the quarantine period.
JUDGING & AWARDS
17- The judges may award a second or a third prize instead of a first; or may withhold a prize altogether, where there is no competition or where the exhibits are not of sufficient merit.
18- No prizes can be awarded by the judges for extra exhibits if the prize list contains a class or section in which the same can compete.
19- The committee may withhold any prize when misstatements have erroneously or fraudulently been made regarding an exhibit, and exhibitors guilty of such false statements will be debarred from again exhibiting and be liable to expulsion from the society.
20- Should any exhibit, having gained a prize, be disqualified, the next on list does not necessarily obtain the same prize. The committee, with or without the advice of the judges, to decide the question.
21- All persons exhibiting shall accept the decision of the judges appointed by the society, and in the case of written protests, shall be accepted as final and without appeal.
22- No exhibits can be removed from the exhibition until 4 p.m. on the day of the show unless approval is given on the day.
23- Stewards or any members of committee must not be allowed to interfere or make any suggestions to the judges.
24- Any exhibitor refusing or neglecting to place prize cards awarded to them by the judges on their exhibits will be disqualified.
25- Prizemoney for pavilion, poultry, sheep and grain classes to be collected from secretary's office 4 p.m. on presentation of prize cards on Saturday of the Show. Prizemoney not collected will be forfeited.
26- When two judges cannot agree, and a Referee is called in, the Referee will only be allowed to adjudicate on the two exhibits in dispute.
ADMITTANCE TO GROUND
27- The entry card will not admit anyone and must be fastened to the exhibit.
28- No Pass-out checks issued after 1 p.m..
29- The stewards and assistants will not admit entries at the gates, unless exhibitors pay for admittance and bring their exhibits in, when they will oblige by taking them to their respective classes, and ask for the stewards.
PROTESTS
30- Protests (if any) against awards must be lodged with the Secretary, in writing, by 5 p.m. on the Saturday of the Show, enclosing deposit of $50, which may be forfeited at the discretion of the Society.
31- In cases of disputes as
to the construction of any of these regulations or the meaning of any
in the list, the same shall be determined by the committee of the
Society, whose decision shall be final.
32-
(a) Entries to the
show are accepted subject to the rules and regulations and by-laws of
the Society and of the Show.
(b) The entrant
agrees to be bound by those rules and regulations and by-laws.
(c) The entrant also
agrees to abide by all decisions made by the Society, by the Group
with which it is affiliated or by VAS Ltd pursuant to those rules and
regulations and by-laws, and
(d) No decision so
made shall be called into question by the entrant before any court or
other body (whether or not of a similar nature to a court) whatsoever.
GENERAL
33- The privileges of distributing trade lists, advertisements, or other documents are restricted exclusively to exhibitors at their respective stands. Any infringement of this regulation will incur expulsion from the yards.
34- The Society does not hold itself responsible for values placed on trophies by donors.
35- The Stewards and Committee will be distinguished by a coloured ribbon.
NOTE SPECIALLY
36- The Society shall not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by any exhibit, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall not hold the Society responsible, and shall indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accident.
37- It shall be a condition
of entry to the showground that no person shall hold the Society
responsible for any accident that may be caused thereon through or by
any exhibit. Competitors also enter, ride and otherwise take part
at their own risk.
38- The Society shall not in
any circumstances, hold itself responsible of any loss or misdelivery
of livestock or other exhibits at the Society's exhibition, or any
loss or damage thereto.
39- The Society shall not in any circumstances hold itself responsible for any loss by fire, storm, damage by water, flood or lightning. Exhibits and displays shall be accepted only on this condition.
40- The Society accepts no liability for injury to honorary judges in discharge of their duties at the Show, or in travelling to and from the Show.
41- Society reserves the right to refuse admittance to or eject from the showgrounds any person. And refuse an exhibit or an exhibitor without giving any reason.
42- It shall be a condition of entry of any person to the showground, or of entry for any class or section of the schedule, that if in the opinion of the Society's stewards or executive committee such person shall be guilty of misbehaviour he/she shall be liable to be removed from the ground.
43 - No swing saws shall be operated during the Show.
44 - Chain saws may only be operated for 5-minute sessions, hourly from the half-hour.
45 - The Committee reserves the right to alter the Schedule if circumstances warrant.
46 - All dogs owned by either Showman's Guild members, competitors or general public, must be chained or held on a leash by owners.
47 - Random swabbing of horses may take place.
48 - As a condition of entry the Donald District P&A Society, W.A.S.A., VASA Ltd & R.A.S. reserves the right to use names, addresses and phone numbers of exhibitors or entrants as applicable.
49 - Official Insurer is Australian Insurance Brokers.
The Donald Pastoral & Agricultural Society Inc. is committed to providing a safe, healthy and environmentally acceptable showgrounds for all stakeholders. We shall maintain an effective health and safety program so far as is practicable and endeavour to comply with all statutory and Common Law requirements. All competititors and exhibitors have a "Duty of Care" to avoid exposing themselves or other people to unsafe situations that could lead to injury.

PAVILION OPENING TIMES : NOTE IMPORTANT CHANGES TO PAVILION OPENING AND JUDGING TIMES:
Pavilion open for exhibits to be delivered - Non Perishable exhibits 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday October 9th. Perishable exhibits (cookery), 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday October 10th. Judging will take place 9.30 a.m. to noon Saturday October 10. Pavilion open for viewing 12.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. Saturday October 10.
ALL TICKETS MUST BE FIRMLY ATTACHED TO EACH ENTRY
EACH EXHIBITOR IS ALLOWED ONLY TWO ENTRIES PER SECTION, except in Junior Sections - one entry only.
Judges will award first and second prizes only.
ENTRY FEE: Entrance Ticket Holders & Family free. All Non-Ticket Holders 50c per entry.
PRIZEMONEY: (unless otherwise stated in schedule): Open & Junior Sections: First $2 Second $1
ANY ENTRY THAT HAS PREVIOUSLY WON FIRST PRIZE AT THE DONALD SHOW IS INELIGIBLE TO COMPETE..
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE THE WORK OF THE EXHIBITOR.
All exhibitors must be amateurs in the particular class in which they are exhibiting.
Regional judging of all W.A.S.A. competitions will take place early November 2009. Winners of those sections will be notified. Local VAS Ltd winners (see VAS Ltd sections below), who then go on to win at WASA final will compete at next State Final at Royal Melbourne Show.
VAS Ltd Competition Regulations:
1. One
article can represent only one society or group for VAS Ltd.
2. An article
having won at Show level will
compete at group final, winner will then compete at next Royal Show.
3. An
article having won group final cannot compete further until after
the Royal Show, when if not winning, can compete again.
4. An
article having won at the Royal Show in any class is no longer
eligible to compete in the competition.
5. Each article
entered must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor.
6. If for any reason the
winner is unable to compete at Group or State final level then the
second place-getter is eligible to compete.
7.Items
in Class R VAS Ltd Competition must be the same as won at local show
and group.
8.A person will not be
permitted to win at more than one show within the State in any one
Show year. Persons not adhering to this rule will be required to
forfeit/refund prize money.
9.An article having won
1st at a show cannot be shown at any other state show that year.
Prizemoney may be collected
from the Secretary's office after 4pm, unless stated on the day.
Please bring your prize cards with you to claim your money.
Money not collected on
Show Day will be forfeited.

Rules & Regulations for Ring Events:
During
hours of Show, competitors'
horses in stalls must be tied up. ALL TEMPORARY YARDS TO BE
DISMANTLED BY 7 A.M. SHARP.
Measuring
Stewards: Mrs Beryl Pearse, Mrs Carol Holland.
All
stallions must be visibly entire. Stallions may not compete in saddle
classes, unless specified.
The
judges may award a second or third prize instead of a first, or may
withhold a prize altogether, where there is no competition, or where
the exhibits are not of sufficient merit.
Horse
Committee has the right to alter or delete any section if the
Society has any cause to do same. (Ref. to Reg. 43).
All
ponies and Galloways must either hold E.F.A. measuring certificate or
be measured on the day at Judge's request.
All
riders must wear protective headgear, to the current Australian,
European or American standard.
Novice,
Hack, Galloway, Pony and Rider:
One
never placed first (competing singly) at any Agricultural and/or
Pastoral Show, including novice section.
Newcomers:
EFA
rules apply. For horses' first season in current year. Horses that
have competed in newcomers' class at Barastoc Horse of the Year or
first season class at VAS Ltd Championships are not eligible.
In all
district events, horse owner and rider must reside permanently within
25 km. of Donald P.O.
This
program will be conducted in accordance with E.F.A. "Saddle
Horse Judges and Competition Rules" (Eff. 1-8-'86).
Random
swabbing of horses may take place.
SECOND
TO CHAMPION ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE FOR RESERVE CHAMPION, WHERE RESERVE
IS GIVEN.
Arena
event prizemoney will be presented with ribbon at the conclusion of
each event, providing entry money has been paid. Trophies to be
collected from arena secretary.
Prizemoney
not collected on day will be forfeited.
37¢
charge on all animal entries to cover insurance cost as authorised by
VAS Ltd is included in entry fees.
Horses
are permitted on the ovals Friday and Saturday only and at NO time
are they to exercise on the Hockey field.
Entrance
Tickets:- $25 can be applied for prior to the Show, or purchased at
gate entrance.
Entry
for all Arena Sections will be by purchase of a ticket or tickets at
the Horse Steward Caravan in the arena on the day of competition.
Entrance Tickets must be shown if reduction in entry fees is to be given.
Pony
Club entries by Entrance Ticket.
All
riders must complete a registration and indemnity form (obtainable
from the arena Horse Steward Caravan) prior to competing.
Camp
Fees: All campers must purchase an Entrance Ticket.
All
dogs MUST be chained or held on leash at ALL times. (Regulation No. 44).
